Newly elected MPs from Moyo, Adjumani, and Obongi districts pledge to fast-track infrastructure, health, education, and empowerment programs for the region.

 

The Ma’di sub-region, comprising Moyo, Adjumani, and Obongi districts, has welcomed a new set of Members of Parliament following closely contested elections marked by strong development promises.

During campaigns, candidates assured voters of improved service delivery, with a particular focus on accelerating the long-delayed construction of the Laropi Bridge across the River Nile.

Leaders also pledged to strengthen health, education, and agricultural services, while promoting youth and women empowerment and skilling programs.

In Adjumani District, incumbent Gen. Moses Ali (NRM) retained the Adjumani West County parliamentary seat with 12,845 votes, defeating three challengers. Fellow incumbent Jessica Ababiku (NRM) comfortably held the Adjumani District Woman MP seat with 35,773 votes.

In Adjumani East County, Independent candidate James Mamawi retained his seat with 18,139 votes, defeating NRM flagbearer Mark Dulu Angel.

In Moyo District, Chandia Bernadette Kodili (NRM) was elected Woman MP after garnering 15,398 votes, defeating her closest challenger, Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu, Minister of State for Primary Education, who ran as an Independent.

Kodili pledged inclusive leadership, saying, “I will be a leader for all people of Moyo,” and promised unity, service delivery, accountability, and collaboration across communities.

The incumbent Moyo West County MP, Tom Alero Aza, retained his seat with 17,170 votes.

Obongi District saw a shift in representation, with Hassan Kaps Fungaroo (FDC) reclaiming the Obongi County parliamentary seat after polling 8,503 votes, defeating incumbent Dr. George Didi Bhoka (NRM).

Harriet Joyo, an Independent candidate, won the Obongi District Woman MP seat with 9,403 votes, defeating incumbent Maneno Zumura (NRM).

Campaign activities across the Ma’di sub-region remained largely peaceful, with minimal cases of electoral violence reported.

Despite ongoing concerns over service delivery, particularly in Moyo and in districts hosting thousands of refugees, voters largely maintained support for the NRM. Residents now expect the newly elected leaders to honor their campaign promises and deliver tangible development outcomes.
